Payment Solutions for The Greatest Show On Earth®
Atlanta, GA - May 1, 2002 - While
wire cables allow aerialists and other daredevils to perform death-defying
feats at The Greatest Show On Earth®, working without wires
is enhancing the performance of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus
concession sales staff in other parts of the arena. Since they are constantly
moving to new show locations, Ringling Bros. needed a way to process fast,
secure, electronic point-of-sale (POS) transactions in places where access to
telephone lines is not available. So circus impresarios turned to payment
processor Lynk and U.S. Wireless Data to provide credit card acceptance via
wireless handheld terminals in all 90 North American cities that the show
visits each year.
Using Lipman 3010 handheld POS terminals via the Motient wireless data network, the concession sales
staff can meet the payment needs of their customers anytime, anywhere. The
handheld terminals allow vendors to secure authorizations within a matter of
seconds. This real-time card authorization minimizes chargebacks, customer
disputes and fraudulent transactions. The portability of the wireless terminals
also means that vendors can relocate their concession stands throughout the
arena, as business dictates.
